Viewing for Jim Bowen, 66, of Turlock, will be held from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Allen Mortuary. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Turlock.
Jim was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and married the love of his life, Cheryl, in 1965. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Northern Iowa and received his doctorate from the University of Iowa. In 1970, they settled in Turlock where he worked as a professor and baseball coach for California State University, Stanislaus until his retirement in 2006.  In 2000, he was inducted into the National Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. He was known as “coach” to hundreds of college men, coaching baseball at Stanislaus for 31 years and the Pre-Pan American games in both Caracas, Venezuela and Seoul, Korea. Jim was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and was very involved with both the church and his community. He enjoyed spending time in the Sierras, especially Pinecrest Lake. He also had a love for fishing, woodworking and, most importantly, God, his family and our country.   
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; children, Michelle Bowen, Steve (Karen) Bowen and Kim (Kyle) Bowen Souza; mother, Frances Bowen; siblings, Larry Bowen, Judy Chadek and Joni Smith; grandchildren, Kortne Rochester, Bryse Rochester, Jake Bowen and Becca Bowen.
