Jennie Houts, 97, of Turlock, passed away on Tuesday, July 20 at Emanuel Medical Center. She was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo. to James and Eva Buchanan in 1913. She married James Earl Houts in 1932, and they moved to Iowa in 1941. They moved to Santa Clara in 1959, and settled in Turlock in 1992. Jennie worked for Amway and Collegiate Manufacturing. She loved to travel, and she traveled to South Africa, England, Hawaii, and extensively throughout the continental United States with her motor home. She enjoyed canning and making clothes for her family, but most of all, she loved making quilts. She made about 40 quilts for her grandchildren. God and family were her life.
Jennie is survived by her children, James E. Houts of Los Gatos, Calif., Avril M. Houts of Sparks, Nev., Fay Hertz of Fremont, Jerry Houts of Joplin and Joan Lucero of Tracy. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Houts Jr.; daughter, Alma Adreon; son, Ray Houts; and five siblings.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at Allen Mortuary with a funeral service following. Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park.
