It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mom and family matriarch Joan House, on November 3, 2017.  Joan was born in Turlock on November 4, 1936 to Bill and Vi Austin, oldest of 4 children. A lifelong resident of Turlock, she attended Central Elementary School and graduated from Turlock High School in 1954.  She married Charles House, and together they raised their children in Turlock as well.  Joan worked at California State University Stanislaus, where she was Supervisor of Admissions and Records Department for more than 30 years.  In the late 1980’s, Joan and Chuck returned to the home place where they lived until their passings.

Upon retirement, Joan found great enjoyment volunteering at United Samaritan in Hughson (her adopted hometown), Turlock Historical Society and being President of Hughson Friends of the Library.  She further enjoyed spending time at the ranch working in her flower beds, hosting amazing parties and being the best granny and great-granny to all around her. She believed and passes on the sentiment “be it by blood or love, look at the great family that we are.”

Joan will be missed by her son Greg (Linda), daughters, Shelley (Gene), Torrie (Kurt), Sonia (Beto), Sharon (Mykel), and Susan (Larry), along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom’s wit and warmth will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her including her sister and best friend Marge and daughter Rachelle (Stan), brothers Bill (Sydney) and Jim (Jason), and her nieces and nephews.

A brunch celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Nov. 18, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Ranch.  In lieu of flowers, family prefers donations to your favorite charity.
