Turlock

Born to Ludwig and Julia Anderson April 1927, on their Lander Ave ranch in Hilmar CA, Leona was the youngest in the family.  Leona attended Elim Elementary and graduated from Hilmar High in 1944. After graduating she moved to Fresno to attend Central California Commercial College. In 1945 she went to work for the Fresno County Probation office. She became a member of the Fresno Covenant Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She made many lasting friends while there, staying in touch with them when she returned to the Hilmar/Turlock area in 1955. 
She worked at Roy M. Day Feed & Seed until 1960 at which time she was hired as the secretary to the executive dean at what was then the beginning of Stanislaus State College in Turlock. Leona was involved with campus development and public relations. She married William Cabral, of Turlock; in 1963 she retired in 1990 after 30 years of beinginvolved with changes in location and leadership of Stanislaus State during her tenure.
Leona attended Hilmar Covenant Church where she was active in the church choir several years.  She is predeceased by her husband of 43 years, William Cabral, her parents, a brother Norris Anderson, and a sister Verlyn Young.
  She is survived by their two children, Larry Cabral and spouse Debbie, of Turlock, and Darlene (Cabral) and spouse Tom Helton , in Oklahoma,  4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary on Monday, September 12, 2011 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Graveside service will be at North Hilmar Cemetery on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hilmar Covenant Church.  Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Hilmar Covenant Church  20056 American Ave Hilmar, CA 95324.
