Maria Gonsalves Avelar Nunes, 87, of Los Banos, passed away on July 7. She was born in 1922 in Ponta dos Rosais, Sao Jorge, Azores. She was a homemaker in California.
She is survived by her son, Antonio Avelar Nunes of Los Banos; daughter, Maria (Franklin) Nivea Oliveira of Los Banos; grandchildren, Antonio Avelar Nunes of Los Banos and Rosemarie Nunes Oliveira of Los Banos; brothers, Domingos Avelar of Newman, Antonio Avelar of Idaho and Manuel Avelar of Los Banos; sisters, Rosa Pereira of Watsonville, Ana Cunha of Gustine and Maria Silveira of Le Grand; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two sisters and her husband, Trajano Nunes.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13 at Whitehurst, Norton, & Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main St., Turlock. A combination rosary/funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Los Banos. Burial will follow at Los Banos Cemetery District.
