Mervin Bertram Kampfen

Mervin Kampfen, 83, of Turlock, was born in San Jose, Ca. to Charles and Vivian Kampfen. The family moved to Turlock just before his Junior year and he graduated from Turlock High School. After High School, Mervin joined the Army and served in World War II. He married Beverly Edwards in 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 1949. During their 60 years of marriage they had two sons, Mark and Wayne. The family owned and operated the Princeton Paint and Wallpaper Store in San Jose for 18 years. In later years he worked as a truck driver. He belonged to the Moose Lodge of San Jose for 25 years and was also active in the Santa Clara County Horsemen’s Association for 25 years.
He was a kind man who loved animals. But, he was very much a family man. He loved his family and has greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mervin is survived by his loving wife Beverly Kampfen, his two sons: Wayne Kampfen of Turlock, and Mark (Diane) Kampfen of Placerville, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother Wilbur Kampfen.
Visitation for Mervin will be at Allen Mortuary from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 12. Burial is scheduled for San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, Ca. on Monday, March 15. Please leave memories and condolences at www.allenmortuary.com.
