Monica Hennes entered into rest on Monday, Dec. 6 at the age of 27. Born and raised in the Hilmar community, she was the adored daughter of Rick and Melinda Hennes and sister of Patrick and Brian Hennes. Monica attended Hilmar schools and was active in her church, athletics and a wide variety of clubs and activities. Monica valued people above all else and considered her many, many friends to be the jewels of her life. A bright light, she lived each moment with great joy. 

Following a devastating automobile accident in 2000, Monica overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles to complete her high school education, graduate from California State University, Chico, and earn her teaching credential. She provided substitute teaching services for a variety of local school districts and looked forward to having a class of her own so she could share her appreciation of learning.

She recently moved to the Delta area where she loved the river and its people. She cherished life, saw the beauty in everyone she met and looked forward to enjoying life’s experiences. Monica was grateful to those who showed her kindness and shared her life. 

Monica is survived by her parents and brothers; aunt, Kathy Amos of La Grange; uncle, Steve (Sherry) Hennes of Fallbrook; aunt, Sue (Jim) Cima of New Jersey; great aunt, Susan Frankel of Sunland; great uncle, Alan (Barbara) Haim of San Rafael; uncle, Tom Deal; numerous cousins; and the multitude of friends she considered family. She was preceded in death by her dear grandparents, Bob and Susie Motts; her aunt, Marian Susan Motts; uncle, Dan Amos; and aunt, Mary Deal. 

Our butterfly, she will truly be missed. 

A  Mass of Christian burial will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 at Our Lady of Assumption Church on Walnut Avenue in Turlock with interment to follow at North Hilmar Cemetery. A celebration of Monica’s life will take place following interment at Hilmar Covenant Church Family Center in Hilmar. 

Monica’s family requests that remembrances, in lieu of flowers, be made to Hilmar Rosary Church Building Fund or the donor’s charity of choice.
