Richard “Dick” Albert Brown, 74, passed away Thursday at Emanuel Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 at Monte Vista Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
He was born in January 1935 to Raymond and Hallie (Nutcher) Brown in Turlock. He was raised in Escalon and later in Hughson. After he attended Modesto Junior College, he served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. Mr. Brown worked as a salesman for KTUR radio station in Turlock before becoming a police officer for the Modesto Police Department. He was injured in a water skiing accident in 1958. Afterwards, he went back to school and received his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Stanislaus and was the first student body president. He then became a school teacher at Brown Middle School in Turlock for 15 years (now Dutcher School). In 197,7 he moved to Tracy and taught for a Christian school for seven years. Richard then returned to Turlock and taught at Denair Middle School for 20 years. He was a director for Christian Berets for about 10 years, later pastor and member of the board. He was a member of the alumni board at CSUS, a member of the Gideon’s International and a member of Monte Vista Chapel.
He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Brown of Quebec, Canada, Andrea Brown of Pittsburgh, Penn. and Jonathan Brown of Elk Grove; sister, Janet Coykendall of Tracy; grandchild, Quinn Romeo; and Sharon Brown, the mother of his children.
