Rodney Atkins of Denair, 71, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Kaiser Hospital in Modesto. 

Born in Hinton, West Virginia, at an early age he and his family came to California and eventually settled on the Central Coast (Nipomo), where he attended grade school and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1963.  

He enlisted in the United States Army and served overseas from 1963 to 1966.  Rodney married Linda Keller in 1967.  He briefly worked for Okonite Cable Co. before working for the Water Department for the City of Santa Maria for 12 years.  After starting “Rods Backflow Testing” company he then took a position with the Water Department of Lompoc, CA.  

After 20 years he retired to the Central Valley where he remained until his recent passing.  Rodney enjoyed, camping, boating, exercising and listening to music.

Rodney is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Atkins in 2010; siblings, Eleanor Bray, Sharon Ferrari, Billy Atkins, Bobby Atkins, Gene Atkins, Roger Atkins, and Tommy Atkins.  He is survived by his girl friend,kaneko Ogata, his daughter, Shawna Bailey and her fiancee, Rene Gonzalez both of Denair, grandchildren, Hunter Bailey, Mandy, Dillion, and Roddy Gonzalez, his loving nieces, Sherry, Margaret(Cuzie), Michelle(Ron) and nephews Rob (Jo Ellen),, Ronnie(Debbie), Stanley(Sandra) Rickey, Darian(Brandy), brother in-law Dariel Bray and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 4pm on Saturday, December 19, 2015 with the Funeral to follow at 5pm at Allen Mortuary.  A graveside will be held 11:30am on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Clovis District Cemetery.
