Rodney Dean “Rod” Geving, 61, Dickinson, died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after losing his battle with cancer. Services for Rodney will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, New England, with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Rainy Butte Cemetery, south of New England. Military honors will be provided by the New England American Legion Anton Ulijohn Post 66. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Rod was born to Stanley and Shirley (Bratten) Geving on June 13, 1953 in Dickinson. The family later relocated to California. While in California, Rod joined the US Army and always spoke fondly of his time stationed in Germany. He was united in marriage to Patricia in August 1983 at Turlock, Calif.

Rod enjoyed hunting, and spending time in the Badlands. He was a big history buff and particularly loved learning all he could about the Civil War. He loved debating politics with anyone who would give him the pleasure, and was always up to speed on all of the current events.

He was a loving family man who enjoyed nothing more than to have them all together as often as possible. He always looked forward to our family’s annual Black Hills, S.D. trips.

Rod is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children, Carrie (Matthew) Mitzel, Christina (Patrick) Simonson, and Amber (Nicholas) McClellan, Christopher Geving and Marci (Chris) Conley. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Aiden, Brody, Briar, Samantha, Lynn, Kaylien, Melodie, Alexandra, Rylee and Evan; his mother, Shirley; and two sisters, Rebecca (Gary) Hofer and Nancy (Ben) Jones. And he will be forever missed by his constant companion, a tiny Chihuahua named Izzy. He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Steve; and daughter-in-law, Johnnie Rae Geving.
