Cal State San Bernardino scored twice in the game's final 15 minutes as the visiting Coyotes edged Cal State Stanislaus, 2-1, in women's soccer Friday night at Warrior Stadium.
Allison Case's goal in the 50th minute could not hold up as the Warriors fell to 5-3-3 overall and 4-3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State San Bernardino extends its winning streak to three and improved to 5-5-1 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play.
The Warriors came up empty in the first half despite a relentless offensive attack. They peppered Cal State San Bernardino goalkeeper Chelsey Jones with nine shots and five shots on goal. But Jones picked up all five saves to keep the Warriors off the board.
Case finally put Stanislaus up 1-0 at 49:33 when she scored from 10 yards out in front of the goal by placing a shot into the right corner. She was assisted by Karene Demery on a cross.
CSUSB would answer in the 76th minute on an unassisted goal by Casey Hirsch, the Coyotes' leading scorer. She got by the Warrior defense and went on a fast break to send a shot pass CSUS goalie Millie Brown.
Then, in the 86th minute, Brittany Wilding scored the eventual game-winner for CSU San Bernardino.
The setback is the Warriors' second straight as they are now three points behind CCAA North leader Chico State. The Warriors are two points back of second place Sonoma State.
No. 2 ranked UC San Diego is Stanislaus' next opponent on Sunday. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at Warrior Stadium. The Tritons remain undefeated at 8-0-3, 7-0-2 as they tied Chico State, 0-0, in Chico Friday.
