Former Cal State Stanislaus Warrior John Powell has joined the men's soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Powell, a Warrior from 2008 to 2010, joined the men's soccer coaching staff as Dana Taylor's first assistant. He replaced Morgan Cathey, who is now the head coach at Whitworth University. Powell served as a student assistant on the 2011 CCAA Championship qualifying team.
"I am excited to have John once again be a part of the Stanislaus family," Taylor said. "He will bring much to our team and I am looking forward to this partnership we are about to embark on."
Since 2011, Powell has gained experience working with the San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) Regional Academy Center as well as serving as an assistant coach at Modesto Junior College.
As a Warrior student-athlete, the former midfielder was an outstanding student as a multiple-time recipient of the CCAA All-Academic awards. He was named the 2010-11 Cal State Stanislaus male scholar-athlete of the year.
Powell was a 2006 graduate of Beyer High School in Modesto.
