Gesser All-American in hammer; 1500m runners advance

For the third straight meet, CSU Stanislaus' Thomas Gesser nailed another personal best in the hammer throw as the senior earned an All-American award on Thursday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
With his third throw on the day, Gesser hit 58.67 meters (192 feet, six inches), to finish eighth. Gesser had hit a personal best in the beginning of May at the CCAA Championships to win the conference title. He followed it with other best the following week at the CSUS Twilight Last Chance Meet.
Gesser became the first Warrior hammer thrower to earn an All-American since 2005. He's the sixth Stanislaus student-athlete to earn the All-American honor in the hammer throw.
In the men's 1500-meter prelims, Dawson Vorderbruegge was the top qualifier on Thursday as he clocked 3:57.51. He won heat two of the event with eight of the 12 qualifies came from his heat. The 1500-meter finals are today.
Marina Ghabbour will also be competing today as she advanced as one of the top 12 runners during her preliminary race. Her time was 4:34.64, the sixth best time of the day.
Denali Foldager wrapped up her successful career by competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Thursday. The Seward, Alaska, native was 17th in the prelims in a time of 11:36.67.
