The Cal State Stanislaus men’s basketball team had two 20-point scorers, with another coming close to joining that club. But the Warriors just couldn’t overcome San Francisco State, which performed well enough for a 73-68 win on Saturday night at Fitzpatrick Arena.

Dwight Jones had a career-high of 22 points, Evan Scott went 8-for-8 from the floor en route a 20-point night and Reggie Jones was once again an inside presence and finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. But those numbers weren’t enough, as the Warriors fell to 6-10 overall and 4-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
 

Winston Demmin led his team with 22 points and seven rebounds and San Francisco State continued its climb up the ladder in the CCAA, now boasting an 8-4 conference record.

The only other Stanislaus scorers were Marcus Lever (six points) and Dan Daviess (three points).

Back-to-back three-pointers by Stanislaus’ Jones and Scott gave the Warriors a brief 50-49 advantage at the 11:11 mark in the second half, the last time the Warriors had the lead. San Francisco State then used an 8-0 run for a 57-50 lead after a pair of Phoenix O'Rourke free throws.

The Gators led by nine with three minutes to go, but Stanislaus rallied again and cut it down to two at 66-64. But San Francisco State converted on some free throws to close it out.

Jones, who made some uncontested layups in the final seconds, made 12 of his 13 free-throw attempts. He also had three steals to his totals.

For the game, the Warriors shot a clean 50 percent — the third consecutive time they’ve made at least half of their shots.

The Warriors’ four-game homestand continues this weekend when Stanislaus hosts Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and Saturday, with both games tipping off at 7:30 p.m.

The latter team is ranked fourth in the country.
