Cal Poly Pomona, the defending NCAA Division II Champion and preseason’s No. 1 team, has been selected to capture the 2010-11 California Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball title, according to a poll of league coaches that was announced Thursday.
Cal State Stanislaus was picked as a conference tournament qualifying team in seventh place. The Warriors finished 10th in 2009-10 with a 6-16 CCAA record (10-17 overall) under first-year head coach Larry Reynolds.
The Broncos totaled 120 points and received 10 first-place votes to finish ahead of Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros collected 100 points and one first-place vote, while Cal State San Bernardino was third after garnering 98 points. The Coyotes (23-8, 17-5) defeated Cal Poly Pomona, 58-52, in last year’s CCAA Tournament championship game.
Humboldt State was picked fourth after registering 95 points and one first-place vote. Chico State (85) was picked fifth and was followed by Sonoma State (69), Cal State Stanislaus (58), San Francisco State (52), Cal State L.A. (51), Cal State Monterey Bay (31), UC San Diego (21) and Cal State East Bay (12).
Cal State East Bay, which is in its second season as a member of the CCAA, is in ineligible for the conference title while going through its exploratory phase.
