Warriors lose in season opener

The streak is over.
In the California Collegiate Athletic Association season opener at Sonoma State on Friday afternoon, the Cal State Stanislaus women’s soccer players gave up a goal in the 53rd minute that they couldn’t overcome and lost 1-0. It was the Warriors’ first defeat in five tries after shutting out the first four opponents.
Sara Studer’s goal helped the Seawolves to a 3-2-0 overall record and 1-0-0 in conference action in front of a crowd of less than 100.
The Warriors dropped to 4-1-0 overall, 0-1-0 in the CCAA. Before the loss, they were ranked No. 6 in the West Region.
Goalkeeper Millie Brown finished with five saves, as she took eight shots on goal.
The Warriors aim to recover Sunday, when they travel to Humboldt State in Arcata for a match at 2 p.m.

Men’s team suffers same fate
Despite owning an early one-goal lead, the Cal State men’s soccer team suffered a heartbreak against Sonoma State at Seawolf Soccer Field in Rohnert Park on Friday afternoon.
The final score was 3-2 against the No. 11 team in the country.
Stanislaus’ Victor Regalado had a score in the ninth minute, but it was followed by two goals from Sonoma State. Jose Velasquez added the equalizer for the Warriors, which was followed by another Sonoma State score in the 50th to take the final lead.
The Warriors play again Sunday at Humboldt State at 11:30 a.m.

In other news
Cal State Stanislaus will have a grand opening for the Student Recreation Complex on Friday that includes men’s and women’s soccer matches starting at 4:30 p.m. against UC San Diego.
The Warriors cross country teams will compete at the Sacramento Jamboree today in Sacramento.
