The Cal State Stanislaus men's and women's soccer programs and the Turlock Youth Soccer Association are once again hosting a fun-filled community event to kick off the 2011 season.
In cooperation with the City of Turlock Parks and Recreation Department, the Warriors and TYSA are inviting the public to attend the second annual Kickoff Carnival on Aug. 13. The carnival is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Warrior Stadium on the Stanislaus campus.
Admission to the carnival is $2 with a canned food item, which benefits food banks in the community. Parking is free on the designated lots near Warrior Stadium.
“We are once again looking forward to partnering with TYSA and the Turlock Parks and Recreation department for another fun-filled, festive, community event,” Stanislaus men's soccer coach Dana Taylor said. “We invite everyone from our community to join us for some family fun.”
The event will feature many activities for sports enthusiasts of all ages, including bounce houses, dunk tank, face painting and other carnival games, in addition to music and entertainment. Area coaches will participate in a clinic with Taylor. The Turlock Tornados is also conducting a players' clinic.
“Last year's carnival was huge success and we look to make this year's event even more festive with our women's team, a disc jockey on-site and player clinics from TYSA,” Taylor added.
The 2010 inaugural event drew more than 2,000 youth, community members, fans and soccer players. Local organizations, such as Emanuel Medical Center, Turlock Fire and Turlock Police, also took part in the event.
Stanislaus kicks off its 2011 season with four straight home dates in September with the women's team hosting Central Washington on Sept. 1, and the men's team takes on Fresno Pacific on Sept. 2. For a full schedule, visit warriorathletics.com.
Warrior Stadium, which is in its third season of operation, will once again host the CCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships on Nov. 4-6.
