Delhi varsity football coach Erik Martinez is happy that his Hawks captured a win in week one over Livingston.

The offensive line dominated and the Hawks defense was able to hold on in the end for a 31-28 victory in their home season opener on Friday night.

“Offensively we controlled the clock all game long,” said Martinez. “We moved the ball at will, our line payed great picking up stunts and blitzes, we made some mistakes on offense but we overcame our few mistakes.”

Delhi went up 13-12, then took the lead by halftime to make it 25-20, highlighted by a 47-yard touchdown run from Damian Rivera.

They never looked back after that.

“The entire line played great and Alecxis Miranda had a 26-yard run early on, controlled the offense for us tonight, made great reads and pitches and great job leading our offense tonight,” said Martinez.

Delhi will next travel to Johansen to take on the Vikings at 7 p.m. Friday.

“Just minor things to fix, like us making better reads on option plays and maintaining blocks,” Martinez added. “Not too concerned our offense was rolling tonight, we had guys cramp but lot of credit to our No.2 and No. 3’s they stepped up for the guys who cramped up, filled in well.”
