Hilmar High's football team failed to play spoilers in their penultimate home Trans Valley League matchup against Hughson High, which ended with a 37-21 loss.

Hughson started off the first half with a zip as they tallied 30 points to Hilmar's seven to end the first half with the Huskies leading the Yellowjackets by 23.

Although Hilmar held possession for most of the game and tallied more first downs (22) and ran more plays (66) then Hughson, it wasn't enough to stop the Huskies' running game.

Cesar Cuevas of Hughson ran for 282 yards on 25 carries and scored three touchdowns behind a very strong offensive performance.

Quarterback Walter Fountain threw for 195 yards while scoring two touchdowns through the air and the 'Jackets young defense couldn't contain a consistent offense that was attacking with a vengeance.

Hughson (1-2) notched their first win of the season on Friday, while Hilmar is still winless (0-3).

Hilmar's final home game for the 2014 season will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Modesto Christian.
