Pitman High positioned itself atop the CCC with a 51-38 win over Golden Valley High on Tuesday. The Pride (5-9 overall) utilized a strong defense to hold the Cougars at bay and remain undefeated in league play.

Marissa Marable finished the night with 10 points and Parmine Randhawa finished with eight in a performance that saw a total of nine Pride players find the basket. Golden Valley trailed by double digits the entire night and was unable to effectively pressure Pitman or cause turnovers.

Pitman will battle Buhach Colony High Thursday night at home in a game that will decide first place in the CCC.

Hilmar High’s girls ran into trouble Monday when they hosted Modesto Christian High. The Crusaders (11-4 overall) swatted the Yellowjackets (11-5 overall) 69-36, handing Hilmar its third straight loss.

Modesto Christian got out to a fast start, taking a double digit lead early in the first half. The Yellowjackets found themselves in a position where they would either live or die by their three point shots. The pressure was too much as the Crusaders pulled away in the third quarter and secured the win.

Hilmar must now travel to Riverbank High on Thursday where ‘Jackets hope to earn their first league win.
