Between Turlock, Pitman and Hilmar High, a total of 29 wrestlers advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet this weekend with only one goal in mind— the state tournament.

Only the top six will move on to arguably the deepest and most challenging high school wrestling tournament in the country — the California Interscholastic Federation Wrestling Tournament next weekend from Bakersfield’s’ Rabobank Arena.

Out of the 14 weight classes in the Division-II SJS bracket, Turlock and Pitman won a combined seven.

Pitman moves 11 on to Master’s, while Turlock advances 10.

Hilmar saw three champions in the D-V bracket.

Justin Rentfro (220), Wyatt Carter (126) and Broc Perry (113) won for the Yellowjackets squad, which also took Divisionals as a team and advanced eight to Master’s.

The Master’s tournament is slated to run from Friday through Saturday.

The top six from every weight class advance to state.

The CIF State tournament is slated to run from next Thursday to Saturday.
