Pitman High School senior Blayne Siebert loves to sprint, and fortunately for him, he has been afforded the opportunity to continue competing at the collegiate level as he signed his National Letter of Intent to join the track and field team at UC Davis.

Siebert is one of the fastest runners Pitman has ever seen in the school’s 21-year history. Last season, he broke the program’s 100-meter dash record not once, but twice. He first became the school’s 100-meter king at the Central California Athletic Alliance Championships, where his record-breaking time of 10.75 seconds secured first-place. He bested that mark with a 10.72 dash in the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters trials. His efforts throughout the year also helped Pitman’s boys team clinch their first Sac-Joaquin Section title in program history.

“I love the atmosphere there at UC Davis and what the campus has to offer,” the 18-year-old speedster said. “The campus itself was just more quiet and it’s an academically-focused school. And I do like their athletic facilities.”

Those facilities include the two-story Edwards Family Athletics Center, which opened in 2022. It is described as a hub for Aggie student-athletes for strength and conditioning, sports medicine, team meetings and academic work. It’s a resource that will come in handy as he plans to study human biology and pursue a career in physical therapy.

But before he returns to the UC Davis campus as a college student, there is plenty on Siebert's to-do list for his senior season with the Pride. In the Masters finals last season, he placed sixth and failed to qualify for the CIF State Championships. There isn’t a single ounce of doubt in his mind that he will make it to the state meet in 2024.

“I’m going to be there at the state championships and I’m looking forward to it,” he said confidently.

And though he is proud of his records and accomplishments thus far, Siebert still isn’t satisfied, vowing to be even faster.

“I'm going to break it again this year. I want to be the best [sprinter] Pitman has ever had.”
