It’s official. The Turlock girls tennis team has secured a decade long of league titles after toppling Pitman, 8-1, on Tuesday in the Central California Conference regular season finale.

“It feels awesome to have won another league title this season. What makes this year’s win special is our whole team contributed,” said Turlock head coach Linda Bejaran. “We played several matches without our top 12 due to various reasons and the players that filled in the gap stepped up.”

The contribution from the top six singles players and the doubles squad was evident for the entire season as the Bulldogs surged through league.

“All of the girls who stepped in were contributing to our winning record,” said Bejaran.

Turlock finishes league with a perfect 12-0 record while Pitman falls to 6-6 for the year in the first year back for head coach Jeff Hayes.

“Congratulations to Turlock on their undefeated season. They’ve put in a lot of hard work and they’ve played with solid character and sportsmanship,” said Hayes about their crosstown rivals winning yet another CCC title.

Turlock’s Rebekka Cripe, Maya Young, Michelle Gomez, Izzy Romeo, Mehr Sahota and Sophie Winfree all won their singles matches over the Pride.

Four of the six singles matches ended in straight sets in favor of the Bulldogs while Pitman’s lone win came in the No. 3 doubles match.

Mia Pearson and Leslie Vargas were the teammates for the Pride who notched the lone win for the day, 6-4, 2-6 and 10-5.

It was also one of the windiest days of the season with the gusts reaching nearly 20 miles per hour.

“The wind could have been a factor but before the match we discussed the direction of the wind and how to use it to our advantage,” said Bejaran.

Next for Turlock and Pitman is the CCC singles and doubles tournament that will take place next Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Turlock will also compete in the Sac-Joaquin Section tournament on Nov. 1 against an opponent yet to be named and time yet to be determined.
