Three weeks ago Turlock High was on the brink of its second tournament championship of the season when fate and the weather intervened. The Bulldogs were slated to take on Trans Valley League stalwarts Escalon High in the Dick Windemuth championship game when heavy rains delayed the matchup.

Turlock finally got its shot at the Cougars on Saturday at Downey High where the Bulldogs seized opportunities in the fourth and sixth innings for a 3-0 victory. Now, with the Atch Pedretti Tournament title already in its possession, Turlock’s 2013 season includes two tournament championships, an undefeated Central California Conference campaign, and an ongoing school record of consecutive wins at 20 games.

Dakota Edwards manned the hill for all seven innings on Saturday where he struck out six batters, allowed only two hits, and finished with no earned runs. Gavin Gaffaney came up big from the plate with two RBI’s while Darren Trainor notched an RBI on his one appearance at the plate.

With the win, the Bulldogs were named the top Division I team in the San Joaquin Section and are now ranked 42nd in the state.

Turlock has five games remaining on its CCC schedule with its next matchup coming today against Buhach Colony High on the road.
