Girls, get your mitts and softballs ready. School may be out but competition never stops, which is why the Turlock Community Services and Greater San Joaquin Softball Association are sponsoring a 16 and under and an 18 and under Western National Softball Tournament.

Beginning on July 30 and running until Aug. 4, the tournaments will host teams from California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Idaho, and Hawaii at Pedretti Fields and Gemperle Park where they will compete for the coveted Western National Championships. In total, 50-70 teams are expected to compete.

A managers luncheon will kick off the tournament on July 30 with pictures and registrations to follow. Opening ceremonies are set for July 31. After playing two pool games, the teams will be seeded into a double elimination bracket.

Local teams are encouraged to participate. For information regarding registration or the tournament’s format contact Bart Magellan at 639-7353 or visit www.gsjm.com.
