A verbal altercation between a man and two people in a car could have turned deadly after one man in the car pulled out a gun and started shooting.

No one was shot in the incident, though the suspects remain at large, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The police department received a report of a drive-by shooting around 4 p.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of Julian Street.

The report of the shooting stated a resident had been in a verbal altercation with two men who had been driving by. At one point one of the men pulled out a gun and fired it into the air, then the pair sped off in the vehicle.

There were no injuries and no property damage reported, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman.

A detective in the area spotted a vehicle that matched the description given in the report and a high-risk stop was initiated. However, it turned out the occupants of the vehicle were not involved in the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
