A Turlock man who attacked an elderly veteran out for an afternoon walk is headed to prison for nine years for elder abuse, the Stanislas County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Anthony Mark Castillo, 36, of Turlock, was convicted on Jan. 28 of elder abuse causing great bodily injury and sentenced to nine years in state prison.
The attack happened on June 1, 2024, in the 100 block of N. Tully Road. On that day, the 77-year-old victim was walking on a sidewalk in Turlock when Castillo approached him and asked if he had served in the military. After confirming that he was a veteran, Castillo punched the victim in the face with enough force that it caused the man to collapse and lose consciousness.
The victim suffered several bruises and cuts to his face and arms and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The attack was unprovoked.
Deputy District Attorney Sameer Shukla prosecuted the case on behalf of the People. The Turlock Police Department investigated this case and apprehended the suspect.
