A report of an armed man walking in a Turlock neighborhood ended with the arrest of a burglary suspect who was caught moments after fleeing a woman’s home.

The suspect was identified as Claude Daily, 47. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of methamphetamine, and committing a felony while out on bail.

The incident began shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday when the Turlock Police Department received a report of a man walking in the 4300 block of Tahama Lane with what appeared to be a handgun, said Turlock Police Officer Steve Rodrigues.

As patrol units were responding to the call the suspect was seen by residents jumping over a fence into a backyard.

Moments later a woman came running out of the home screaming that a man had just come into her home.

The suspect, later identified as Daily, fled the home on foot, but was spotted by the officers arriving at the scene and apprehended without incident.

The suspect had in his possession methamphetamine and “a very realistic replica handgun,” Rodrigues said.
