A woman looking at her cell phone while walking through a parking lot was struck by a car, whose driver said the sun was in his eyes and he didn’t see her, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The collision happened shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Park Place Apartments at 3701 Crowell Rd.

The 21-year-old woman was walking in the parking lot looking at her phone, as a 19-year-old man was driving through.

The driver said the sun was in his eyes and he did not see the woman until the he was almost upon her. He swerved the vehicle in an effort to avoid hitting her, but she was hit by the side mirror and knocked to the ground.

The woman had minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
