Collision on Monte Vista Avenue kills pedestrian
emergency

A 27-year-old man crossing Monte Vista Avenue was struck by a vehicle and killed Monday morning, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The Stanislaus County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as Anthony Eric Gonzales, 27, of Turlock.

The collision happened at 6:53 a.m. Monday at the intersection of W. Monte Vista avenue and Del's Lane.

Gonzales was walking across W. Monte Vista Avenue in the crosswalk when he was struck by a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe that was headed westbound on W. Monte Vista Avenue.

The first Turlock Police officer to arrive at the scene and an off-duty firefighter who was in the area began administering CPR to Gonzales and continued until relieved by personnel from the Turlock Fire Department and American Medical Response.

Gonzales was rushed to a nearby hospital, but "despite all life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital," said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Michael Parmley in a news release.

The 41-year-old woman driving the Chevrolet remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

The police department does not suspect drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the collision. Conditions were dark at the time, according to the first officers at the scene.
