Stanislaus County Supervisor and former State Assemblymember Kristin Olsen was arrested Wednesday night by the California Highway Patrol on allegations of driving under the influence.

Olsen was driving a rental car eastbound on Interstate 80 in Sacramento Wednesday night when she was stopped by an unmarked Sacramento County Sheriff’s vehicle. Olsen was allegedly driving erratically and without her headlights on, according to CHP Officer Mike Zerfas, the public information officer for the North Sacramento CHP office.

The sheriff’s deputy suspected Olsen was driving under the influence and called out the CHP to investigate. The CHP conducted a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer before placing Olsen under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Olsen released a statement regarding the incident on her Twitter account that reads: “I regret having made an inadvertent, careless mistake last night. As you can imagine, I’m embarrassed and horrified.  I apologize to my family and constituents for this incident. It was a hard lesson to learn.”
