New details have emerged in the officer-involved shooting that left one man dead in a busy Turlock parking lot Tuesday night.

The shooting transpired when officers from a multi-agency task force attempted to arrest a suspect in an ongoing narcotics investigation.

The shooting resulted in the death of Omar Villagomez, 21, of Orosi. His passenger, Juan Bulgara, 27, of Farmersville also was injured in the incident, though he was not struck by any gunfire, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.

No law enforcement member was injured during the incident.

The incident began around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of W. Main Street, which houses Turlock Regal Theatre, the Turlock Poker Room, Starbucks, and other eateries and retail businesses.

The vehicle, a silver extended cab Ford pickup, and the occupants inside it were of interest to the Stanislaus Drug Enforcement Agency and agents attempted to make an arrest Tuesday night.

Law enforcement was attempting to make the arrest when Villagomez collided with unmarked police vehicles at the scene. The officers fired at Villagomez, resulting in fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bulgara was injured from debris in the collision, said Rodrigues. He was treated at a local hospital and later released into police custody. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine with the intent for sales, transportation of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance while armed and possession of a loaded and concealed firearm.

The names of the law enforcement members that fired the shots have not been released at this time.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The Turlock Police Department, the Modesto Police Department, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, and the California Highway Patrol were all at the scene of the shooting. The Turlock Police Department is investigating the incident.
