Two inmates at the Stanislaus County Jail died over the weekend in unrelated incidences, the Sheriff’s Department reported.
The first inmate to die succumbed to self-inflicted slashes to his arms with a razor on Saturday while the second died of a drug overdose on Sunday.
At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday deputies at the Public S a f e t y Center in west Ceres were alerted to an emergency in Robert Inderbitzen’s cell after screaming was heard. Inderbitzen, 49, who was housed alone in the cell, was unresponsive and had sustained wounds to his arm. Deputies began administering CPR and applied a tourniquet in attempt to stop the bleeding. Emergency medical personnel arrived and rushed Inderbitzen to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The Crimes Against Persons team and Identification Unit investigated the apparent suicide. It is believed Inderbitzen
used a blade from his shaving razor to cut himself. His official cause of death will be determined during an autopsy later this week.
Inderbitzen was booked into the Stanislaus Public Safety Center on Jan. 26 for charges
related to theft, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm. Inderbitzen was also accused of murdering Tracy rancher Eric Almason on Jan. 24 while breaking into 26000 block of South Lammers Road.
The next morning at approximately 11:50 a.m., custodial deputies found two inmates unresponsive in their shared cell. Deputies began rendering medical aid to Quyen Tran, 27, and his cellmate, including administering Narcan to both since it was believed they had been exposed to or overdosed on drugs. Both inmates were
transported to a local hospital where Tran was pronounced deceased. The other man has been released from the hospital.
He told investigators that the two used drugs that morning. An autopsy and toxicology report will be conducted to
determine Tran’s official cause of death.
Tran has been jailed since June 4, 2020 for the murder of a 28-year-old Modesto woman in the 2700 block of Barcelona Drive and felony domestic violence. Tran had also previously served time in prison for domestic violence in Stockton involving the same woman.
