The Summer/Labor Day National Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 12 DUI deployments in Stanislaus County, according to the Turlock Police Department, the agency overseeing the Avoid the 12 grant.

From 12:01 a.m. Aug. 19 through midnight Wednesday, officers representing 12 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 79 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2010 119 DUI arrests occurred during the same 13-day time period.

For the Labor Day Holiday weekend a DUI checkpoint will be conducted in Modesto, and extra DUI saturation patrols will be deployed in the Turlock. All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts. The CHP will be deploying all available officers onto freeways and county roads during their maximum enforcement period this weekend beginning Friday.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
