A Turlock elementary school was placed on a brief lockdown Thursday afternoon after a man ran into a home and was confronted by an armed resident who proceeded to chase and detain the suspect in the neighborhood.

The incident was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday in the 4200 block of Donovan Way.

The suspect, Jose Rodriguez, 25, believed he was being chased by several people, so he ran into the nearest home, where a resident happened to be walking out the front door, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.

A male resident in the house grabbed a shotgun and confronted Rodriguez with it. Rodriguez ran from the home and the resident chased after him and detained him until police could arrive.

Medeiros Elementary School was placed on a lockdown for five minutes as a precaution because a weapon was involved in the call, Rodrigues said.
