The Turlock Police Department took a 29-year-old former resident into custody on allegations he sexually abused a young girl.

Tobias Salgado Sandoval, 29, of Modesto was arrested Monday on suspicion of having sexual intercourse with a child under 10 years and two counts of oral copulation or penetration with a child under 10 years.

The alleged abuse occurred while Sandoval resided in the same home with the victim in Turlock, said Turlock Police Sgt. Steve Webb.

The alleged abuse first came to light in May when the young girl told her mother of the incidents and the mother contacted the police department to report a suspected sexual assault.

Sandoval came to the police department voluntarily on Monday for an interview and at the conclusion he was taken into custody, Webb said.

Sandoval remains in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bail. He is scheduled for a court hearing on Aug. 2.

Anyone who might have information about the case is asked to contact Detective James Brewer at 668-5550 ext. 6631 or Detective Frank Navarro at 668-5550 ext. 6619.
