The mystery of the disappearing golf carts from the Turlock Golf and Country Club came to a likely close Dec. 24, with the arrest of a suspect in the thefts.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Department arrested Dennis Paul Cico on charges of burglary and grand theft. He is suspected of taking five golf carts from the Turlock Golf and Country Club from Dec. 10 to Dec. 23, according to the sheriff’s department.

Cico was stopped on Dec. 10 by a Merced County Sheriff’s deputy for driving a golf cart on Bloss Avenue. He was cited for illegally driving a golf cart on a roadway.

It was unknown at that encounter that the golf cart in question was stolen.

When the thefts were reported Cico became the primary suspect. Investigators were able to obtain security camera footage of Cico driving the carts out of the golf course’s lot.

The carts were recovered at a Ballico garage. Each cart has an estimated value of $3,500 to $5,000.
