A 34-year-old Turlock man was arrested April 3 in Ceres after allegedly brandishing what was initially believed to be a handgun while threatening to kill a stranger.

Ceres Police dispatchers received a call at 10:22 a.m. from someone who reported the incident in the area of Hatch and Herndon roads. Officer Alex Ochoa met the victim who said a male, later identified as Jerry Bays, 34, of Turlock, had brandished a “revolver” and told the victim that he was going to kill him.

Bays was located at a nearby bus stop and standing next to a garbage can. Bays told Ceres police that he didn’t have any weapons and that there was a BB gun in the trash can. Officer Ochoa detained Bays and retrieved a realistic-looking revolver from the trash can which was a BB gun.

Bays was arrested and booked for brandishing a weapon and making criminal threats. He was on active parole and a parole hold was placed as well.
