A domestic dispute ended in gunfire at a Turlock apartment complex just after midnight on Friday.
At approximately 12:41 a.m. Friday, Turlock Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Brentwood Apartments on N. Denair Avenue. A 22-year-old Turlock man later arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds after fleeing the scene.
Investigators determined the incident stemmed from a domestic-related dispute involving another person. The victim and suspect were not known to each other. According to the police, this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Officers identified the suspect and took him into custody approximately six hours after the shooting, through coordination between patrol officers, detectives, and SWAT — along with the strategic use of investigative technology, according to the TPD.
Francisco Cortez Jr., 25, of Turlock, was arrested and booked on two counts of attempted murder.
“This rapid arrest reflects the teamwork, persistence, and professionalism of the officers and detectives involved,” the TPD said in released statement.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact Detective Giovacchini at (209) 668-6539.
