The Aug. 18, 2019 shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of S. First Street.

The police department previously said the shooter, now believed to be Gayton, had been in one of the bars on S. First Street before walking out to the street and firing his gun. The suspect fired in the direction of the victim, who was standing outside with three other people. It’s unknown if the shooter was specifically targeting the victim or just the group in general.

The victim, a deputy with the sheriff’s department, had not been in the same establishment as the suspect prior to the shooting, according to the police department.

The suspect had fled the scene prior to the arrival of the first police officers, however, investigators did speak with multiple witnesses and had a detailed description of the suspect. The deputy sustained one gunshot. He has not yet been able to return to work, according to the sheriff’s department.

Gayton has lived in Turlock, as well as other areas in California and in Texas.

The incident that Lee is wanted for happened in the 100 block of Broadway on Sept. 8, 2019. According to the police department, Lee was behind the wheel of a vehicle that intentionally struck a woman.
