A man’s refusal to give money to a stranger resulted in gunfire Tuesday night in a Turlock neighborhood.

The man was not hit by the single gunshot, but the shooter is still at large.

The shooting was reported at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of S. Rose Street.

The victim was sitting in his vehicle when he was approached by an unknown man, who asked him for some money, said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Russ Holeman.

The victim and the suspect “exchanged words with one another” before the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired one shot at the man, Holeman said.

The victim was pulling away in his vehicle and was not struck.

The suspect was described as a white male adult, possibly in his late 20s. He stood about 5-feet-6-inches tall and was wearing all black and a black hat. He was last seen headed east on F Street.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Turlock Police Department at 668-5550.
