A 44-year-old woman reported to the Turlock Police Department that she was snatched at knifepoint from Donnelly Park and sexually assaulted in a nearby alley by an unknown assailant Sunday.

The attack occurred sometime around the midnight hour Sunday.

The woman told officers she was sitting at a bench in the park when she was approached from behind by an unknown man. She was near the side of the park that borders the 300 block of W. Hawkeye Avenue, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The woman said the suspect grabbed her from behind and put something to her side, which she believed to be a knife.

The suspect took the woman across the park to an alley off of Donnelly Park Drive, near an apartment complex. The woman reported she was raped by the assailant and left in the alley.

There was no description available of the suspect.

Donnelly Park was the site of a sexual assault in July 2013. A 43-year-old woman out for an early morning run, reported she was grabbed from behind and dragged into the nearby bushes. She reported her attacker held her down and was forcing himself upon her when she fought him off and made her escape.

The Turlock Police Department arrested a suspect, later identified as Jason Daniel Lara, 18, of Turlock. Lara, who was 17 at the time of the alleged attack, is awaiting trial on a charge of kidnapping with the purpose of robbery/rape. He is being charged as an adult and is currently being held in custody in lieu of a $500,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the attack on Sunday is asked to contact the Turlock Police Department at 668-5550.
