A parolee suspected of an armed robbery in Turlock last November was apprehended during a traffic stop last week, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The suspect was identified by the police department as Luis Torres, 21.

The robbery happened around 11 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2022 at a business in the 100 block of East Glenwood Avenue. An employee of the business described the responsible as a Hispanic male armed with a handgun who was last seen running from the business heading east toward an awaiting vehicle, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

Officers responded to the business and were able to locate surveillance footage of the incident. From the footage, officers and detectives were able to identify Torres as a person of interest. At that time, Torres was a parolee at large and his whereabouts were unknown.

Around 9:30 p.m. on March 3, Turlock Police officers made a traffic stop for an unrelated matter and made contact with Torres, who was a passenger in the vehicle.

Two firearms were discovered in the vehicle during a search and Torres was arrested. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for firearms possession and other unrelated charges, Parmley said.

Torres was interviewed by detectives regarding the robbery and was positively identified as the suspect. He was charged with the robbery on Tuesday.

“I applaud our staff for their determination and the hard work they continue to demonstrate,” said Turlock Police Capt. Miguel Pacheco. “Our staff is committed to solving these types of violent crimes and holding criminals accountable for their actions.
