A man who violated a restraining order tried to take refuge from the police by hiding in a garbage can.

Michael Haynes, 38, had been ordered to stay away from a residence in the 1900 block of Asbury Court, but he was spotted there Thursday afternoon.

When Haynes learned the police were en route, he hid himself in a garbage can.

The ruse was unsuccessful and Haynes was booked for violating a domestic violence restraining order, according to the Turlock Police Department.
