Scam seeks money to avoid arrest

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is warning of a scam targeting area residents that uses a caller claiming to be a member of the sheriff’s department. In the scam a caller identifying himself as “Lt. Haines” tells people they have a warrant out for their arrest because they missed a jury summons. “If you receive a call from this person it is a scam and the caller is most likely trying to get you to pay them money,” the sheriff’s department stated on their Facebook page.
