A man attempting to shoplift a pair of shoes from Wal-Mart was arrested for robbery after fighting with a loss prevention agent and a police officer.

During the arrest a Turlock Police officer suffered a dislocated shoulder and the suspect was shot with a Taser, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.

Arrested on suspicion of robbery and resisting by force was Cole Tyler, 20, of Turlock.

Shortly before 11 p.m. April 2, a loss prevention agent at Wal-Mart witnessed a man trying to leave the store with a pair of shoes that had not been paid for. The loss prevention agent stopped the man, later identified as Tyler, and attempted to detain him, but Tyler fought with the loss prevention agent and was able to flee the store.

Officers spotted Tyler leaving the shopping center on Fulkerth Road on a bicycle and chased after him. In the 1900 block of Cali Lin Court, Tyler jumped off the bike and was attempting to scale over a fence when an officer caught up to him. Tyler fought with the officer, causing the dislocation, Rodrigues said.

The officer issued Tyler several warnings to comply with the order to show his hands and lay down on the ground, but he refused and was struck with a Taser jolt.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and took Tyler into custody.
