A man was arrested for a multitude of crimes and warrants after being caught trying to cash a stolen check at a Turlock bank.

Joseph Walpole, 29, of Modesto was booked into Stanislaus County Jail on charges of identity theft, check fraud, forgery, evading a police officer, resisting arrest, providing false information to a police officer and auto theft.

Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday the Turlock Police Department received a report of a man attempting to cash a stolen check at Bank of the West at 2101 Fulkerth Road.

The suspect had already left, but officers had a description of him and his vehicle and located him nearby. A traffic stop was initiated, but the driver, later identified as Walpole, sped off.

Walpole eventually stopped the car and then attempted to flee on foot, but he was quickly apprehended and arrested.
