The Turlock Police Department has arrested one man suspected of gunning down a man outside a Turlock auto parts store in November 2020.

Jeramie Hoover, 22, of Turlock was arrested Thursday for the murder of Joel Lopez Guzman, 39, of Turlock.

The shooting happened about 3:40 p.m. Nov. 16, 2020, in the parking lot of O'Reilly Auto Parts store at 1601 Lander Ave. in Turlock.

Guzman was standing next to his white Toyota sports utility vehicle when he was shot multiple times, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley. Guzman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, which included interviewing multiple witnesses to the shooting and search warrants, detectives identified Hoover as the suspect. An arrest warrant for murder and carjacking was issued for Hoover.

Detectives received information that Hoover had fled to Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

Around 3 p.m. Thursday the Okmulgee Police Department contacted Hoover during a traffic stop and took him into custody on the warrant. He was booked in their local jail and will be awaiting extradition back to Stanislaus County.
