A Turlock man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and child neglect after he was witnessed striking a sign with his vehicle and running two red lights, all with his 7-year-old son in the car.

The suspect was identified as Gustavo Parra, 39.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday the Turlock Police Department received a report of a reckless driver in the area of W. Canal Drive and Kern Street. The caller stated the driver of the car had just run over a sign in the center median and then continued down the road, proceeding to run through two red lights.

Turlock Police officers found the vehicle in the area of Hawkeye and Mitchel avenues and performed a traffic stop. The officers attempted to give Parra a field sobriety test, but his intoxication level prevented him from completing it safely, said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Russ Holeman.

There were no reported injuries from the collision with the sign. Child Protective Services was contacted about the incident and Parra was taken into custody on allegations of child neglect and driving under the influence. He also had a warrant for his arrest for driving under the influence, hit and run, and driving without a license.
