Two suspected teenage gang members were arrested in connection to a road rage incident in September and an untraceable firearm, the Turlock Police Department reported.
The road rage incident happened on Sept. 16 in the area of Pioneer and East Main Street. The suspect fired a gun from a vehicle before speeding off, said Turlock Police spokeswoman Dominique Sanchez. The suspect crashed the vehicle in the area of Lander Avenue and Highway 99 and fled on foot.
The police department’s Special Investigations Unit took over the case and were able to identify the suspected shooter, who is a juvenile and a documented gang member, according to the police department.
SIU obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s home and all vehicles associated with the residence.
In a planned and coordinated operation on Thursday morning, SIU and police officers made a high-risk traffic stop of the juvenile suspect in the area of W. Linwood Avenue and West Avenue South. Four other individuals were in the vehicle at the time. One, another juvenile was another documented gang member and on searchable probation out of Merced County.
In coordination with the traffic stop, the search warrant was served at the residence in the 700 block of Vermont Avenue. At the home they found a firearm with no serial number, known as a ghost gun. Sanchez said investigators had enough evidence to link the two juvenile suspects to the gun.
The juveniles were booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on multiple charges including willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a deadly weapon, minor in possession of a handgun, minor in possession of live ammunition and hit and run.
